In a new installment of Girl’s Guide is digital content creator Kristie Dash. A veteran of Allure and Lucky Magazine, she’s a pop culture and beauty expert who knows the importance of working hard and finding a good hair colorist. Even if you haven’t met Kristie, you might feel like you already know her by following along her Instagram posts and Snapchat stories that dive into the beauty world and show a behind the scenes glimpse into her day-to-day life. Ahead, she shares words of wisdom from mentor Eva Chen, the Kardashian sister she’d invite to a dinner party, and the two beauty products she can’t live without.
One of my favorite memories is picnicking along the Seine when I lived in Paris for a summer. So, when it comes to warm summer nights, there isn’t anything I love more than grabbing a basket, a bottle of champagne, and whipping together a picnic spread to enjoy outdoors with friends. Though nothing may beat sitting below Pont des Arts with fromage and a still-warm baguette from a local boulangerie, I picked up a few French habits and mastered the art of the Parisian-inspired summer picnic over the years.
There’s something about the California coast that draws me back again and again. Maybe it’s the turquoise water and Baja fish tacos or the perpetual cloudless days and sunny California attitude that keep me coming. I grew up visiting San Diego each summer and returned last month for a family trip. Over the years, our family has found spots we always stop at but we made our way to some newer places that came with high recommendations from friends. Ahead, my favorite places in San Diego for your next visit!
In a new installment of Girl’s Guide is San Francisco blogger Ashley Kane of Brunch on Chestnut. Stylist and digital brand manager turned lifestyle blogger, Ashley has an incredible eye for interior design and photography. She exudes effortless California-cool with face-framing sunglasses and vintage Levi’s in heavy rotation. And her beautiful photography of life in San Francisco and weekend trips to wine country will make you want to book the next flight out to SFO. The West Coast blogger talks SF haunts, the book that changed her life, and what’s been in her makeup bag for over a decade.
The Hamptons is the ultimate escape for New Yorkers who flock to Long Island on the weekend in search of lobster rolls, rosé, and a dip in the Atlantic. Even though I’ve lived in NYC for over a year, I just recently made my first visit for a vacation with friends. I had a long list of recommendations for things to do in the Hamptons from seasoned experts and we found some incredible spots during our time there. Ahead, my favorites places in the Hamptons for your next visit!
With all eyes on Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Brazilian fashion designers have popped onto my radar. The bright colors and bold prints from Isolda look like they’ve been plucked straight from the shores of Ipanema. While Alexandre Birman’s elegant and feminine heels seem designed for late nights dancing to Bossa Nova. The games kick off in Rio today and I’ll be watching the opening ceremony unfold, caipirinha in-hand.

One of the questions I’m asked most on Instagram is how I edit my photos, so today I’m spilling my secrets to a beautiful Instagram feed. The most important part of having a great photo is understanding a few important rules. I’ve been a fan of photography since I could pick up a camera and even took film photo classes in high school, spending late afternoons developing my own pictures in the dark room and learning the rules behind capturing great images. I still use the same ideas today when taking digital shots. Read on to find out my top tips!
The half-up topknot combines the feminine allure of a twisted bun with the laid-back nonchalance of second-day texture. And it’s become my ultimate cheat-day hair. Nothing is easier than tossing up your lived-in hair with an elastic to give it second life after a few days between washes.
