GIRL'S GUIDE

AN INTERVIEW WITH GABY DALKIN OF WHAT’S GABY COOKING

August 4, 2016

Today I’m beginning a new series called Girl’s Guide about women who inspire me. Through the years, I’ve met so many talented women who I admire and I’m excited to share them with you on Bungalow 1.

First up in the Girl’s Guide series is my dear friend Gaby Dalkin of What’s Gaby Cooking. Private chef turned food blogger and cookbook author, Gaby beams bubbly California girl and knows that avocados make everything better. The recipes on her blog and must-see Snapisodes will make you wish you had a permanent invitation to her dinner table. Ahead, she shares the secret behind her success, her passion for margaritas, and sunny West Coast outlook with Bungalow 1.

CAREER

What is your occupation?
Food blogger / travel writer / professional guacamole eater

What has the path been like to where you are now?
After college, I went to culinary school and started working as a private chef! I started whatsgabycooking.com around the same time and as the blog continued to grow, I slowly backed away from the private chef world and now I do What’s Gaby Cooking full time! It was certainly a scary transition into the wonderful world of running your own business, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Surround yourself with people that inspire you!

What advice would you give to other girls starting to break into your industry?
It’s really easy for people to look at “bloggers” and think they have such a glam life, but it’s not always so glamorous – so be prepared to get down and dirty to get your blog or business off the ground! And make sure you have a really defined point of view and then go for it!
